How to make Houjicha Shiratama at home!
Roasted green tea rice balls
Fragrant roasted green tea arranged into shiratama! The shiratama covered in roasted green tea powder goes well with tea, of course.
Ingredients (for 2 people)
- Hojicha powder
- 2 tablespoons
- Hojicha (cooled)
- 100ml
- Shiratamako (rice flour)
- 100g
- Powdered sugar
- 2 tablespoons
*Hojicha powder: Roast the tea leaves in a small pot or frying pan over high heat for 1-2 minutes, then grind them into powder in a grinder for 5-7 minutes.
How to make it
1. Add about half the roasted green tea (50ml to 70ml) to the shiratamako flour and mix well.
2. Add the remaining Hojicha tea in small amounts until it is about the thickness of an earlobe.
3. Roll out the mixture from step 2 into a rod about 2-3 cm in diameter and cut it into tubes about 2 cm long.
4. Roll it into a ball and make a small indentation in the center.
5. Put the rolled shiratama into boiling water and boil. After they float to the surface, remove them and place them in ice water.
6. Prepare a mixture of roasted green tea powder and powdered sugar, and roll 5, which has been patted dry, over it to coat the entire surface.
7. Place in a bowl and sprinkle the remaining powdered sugar on top just before serving.
