Message from the President
"I want many people to enjoy delicious tea."
This was the vision that our founder, Kahei Yamamoto, had when he founded Yamamotoyama. In 1690, Kahei Yamamoto, who had been making tea in Uji, came down to Edo and established a tea business in Nihonbashi, marking the beginning of Yamamotoyama.
Looking back on our history, there have been three major turning points.
In 1738, Ujitawara tea master Nagatani Soen created "Aosei Sencha", the prototype of Sencha, and it was first sold in Edo. This led to Sencha becoming popular among the common people. In 1835, Kahei VI invented "Gyokuro". Gyokuro, with its rich sweetness, is still enjoyed by many people as a luxury tea. Then, in 1947, Kahei IX started selling "Nori" seaweed, and developed a market for seaweed gifts in line with Japan's rapid economic growth.
Our company is now facing a diversification of consumer values and eating habits. It is not enough to simply provide high-quality tea and seaweed as products as we have done in the past. We believe that we must provide value that enriches the mind, body, and lifestyle of each and every customer while inheriting the food culture that the Japanese have cultivated over a long history and the passion of producers.
Our mission is to provide new value to tea and seaweed. We will continue to do business sincerely, making use of the knowledge and experience we have cultivated over more than 330 years, so that we can bring smiles to the faces of our customers.
